It is safe to refer to the Baltic coast in the Kaliningrad Region as an “amber talisman”. The largest deposit of amber (about 90% of the world’s reserves) is found in the area of Yantarny on the coast of the Baltic Sea. In April 2016, the beach in Yantarny was the first in Russia to be awarded the Blue Flag. The international award is given to coastal areas that meet requirements for high quality of water, safety and environmental standards. Yantarny is not just an amber quarry, albeit the only one in the world.
