The east wing of the General Head quarters (the edifice built to the design of Сarlo Rossi in the Empire style at the beginning of the 19 th century) houses the special pride of the Hermitage-the collection of the French paintings of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

During the tour you will see the collection of Shykin and Morozov’s brothers, having on display over the 280 canvases, including Monets, Renoirs, Pissarros, Sisleys works and Degas pastels, Rodins sculpture. The Postimpressionist section has Gauguins, Cezannes and Van Goghs masterpieces. Even more impressive is the exhibition of the following generation of artists, which contains Matisses, Derains, Bonnards, Denis, and Picassos canvasses.
